Maid-Rite is one of America’s first quick service casual dining franchise restaurants since it first opened in 1926. They were ahead of their time when they developed one of the first drive-up, walk-up windows for customer convenience. Their philosophy of doing whatever it takes for their customer’s satisfaction in serving great tasting made to order food at an affordable price in a friendly environment of hometown hospitality has always been the cornerstone of Maid-Rite’s customer service philosophy.
In 1926, Fred Angell, a respected butcher in Muscatine, Iowa, combined a special blend and grind of the finest Midwestern ground beef with a selected recipe of secret spices and created the one and only Maid-Rite sandwich. As legend goes, Mr. Angell asked a delivery man, at his restaurant, to taste his newest sandwich creation. After a few bites, the taster exclaimed, “You know, Fred, this sandwich is just made right.” Thus our signature sandwiches name was born.
Mrs. Angell, who loved to dabble in marketing, decided that the sandwich indeed was made right. Mrs. Angell envisioned that a Maid-Rite Maiden should grace the top of every Maid-Rite restaurant that they franchised throughout the country. The Maiden became a popular symbol representing delicious, wholesome diner-style food, served with friendly hometown hospitality.
In addition to the signature Maid-Rite ground beef sandwiches, their delicious menu also includes such popular items as breaded Tender-Loins, Broaster® Chicken, French fries, onion rings, soups, salads, home-style pie and Seattle's Best Coffee® and pizza at selected locations. Their Soft Serve and Blue Bunny Ice Cream Shoppes serve delicious malts & shakes along with classic sundaes.
