I am often surprised at the phone calls I receive wanting to know what an "active adult" community is and whether or not the caller qualifies for one.
These days Active Adult 55+ Communities are becoming very popular and seem to be springing up in every Georgia county. Simply, these communities are targeted to those who are 55 years of age and older. Typically, people who seek homes in these neighborhoods are people who have "downsized" to some degree. Although, they may want to leave lawn maintenance and other chores to someone else, they still want to have an active and social lifestyle. Most popular in Georgia are the condos, single family homes and cluster homes. Opportunities for fun, socializing, recreational activities include but are not limited to golfing, tennis, arts and crafts, painting, biking and more. A popular type of active adult community is the leisure or resort style community. In this type of active adult community, one can expect to experience resort-style living complete with pools, spas, golf courses, tennis, fitness clubs, entertainment and friends -- lots of friends. As Forbes points out in the article and pictures, Atlanta continues to be one of the fastest growing cities for all age classifications, but retirees, love Atlanta too.
