9,800 Tax Credit is Now Available
 |
Great news for the Georgia housing industry as Bill 261 has passed.
House Bill 261 authorizes a $1,800 home buyer tax credit for a six month period of time for the purchase of any single-family residence, including houses, townhomes and condos. The amount of the credit will be the lesser of $1,800 or 1.2 percent of the purchase price. A taxpayer may claim one-third of the credit available in each taxable year, and may carry forward unclaimed amounts.
This is not restricted to first-time homebuyers like the current $8,000 home buyer tax credit, and, in fact, is in addition to that credit. So first time home buyers in Atlanta would be eligible for a total of up to $9,800 in incentives for purchasing a new home.
